ATHLETIC & EMOTIONAL SUCCESS - A WINNING COMBINATION TOWARD MENTAL TOUGHNESS

Sport Psychology Discussions with Dr. Sheryl Smith, a certified mental performance consultant and licensed clinical psychologist, is a member of the United States Olympic Committee registry of Sport Psychologists. She has written chapters for textbooks on sport psychology and consults to individuals and teams of Connecticut Universities.

These three topics will be presented as one session per week, over a month's time.  The insight being provided to our student athletes through Dr. Sheryl Smith is extremely powerful toward being able to perform at optimal levels and a vital step to our Video Scout PSA's development.

Module 1: Strengthening your ability to control your attention

    i. Present moment focus

   ii. Training your attention system to enable present
       moment focus - mindfulness

Module 2: Developing a growth mindset -
                the best attitude toward mistakes

   i. Fixed v. growth mindset and the behaviors that
         arise from them.

   ii.  Attitude towards mistakes.

   iii. Viewing yourself as a learner.

Module 3: Routines - help yourself manage
your emotions, focus, and intention before you play.

    i. Visual focus - Quiet eye, target.

   ii. Calming breathing.

   iii. Intention focus.

   iv. Visualizing the successful execution of your skill.
